Capt. Dan Hoban
Capt Dan Hoban completed an MEng in Civil Engineering at Newcastle University before commissioning into the Corps of Royal Engineers in 2019. He spent the early part of his career working in a specialist Geographic Unit, and working closely with Armoured Engineer formations. His career has taken him around the world, notably the Republic of Korea supporting the UN Command, Norway with the Commando Force, and Poland supporting NATO.
Capt Hoban attended the Professional Engineer Training in 2022, for which his secondment was to the US Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, Maryland. He was responsible for the delivery of a Special Operations Cyber Centre ($84m) and a Structural Engineer on the refurbishment of the Naval Research Laboratory, DC. During this attachment, he worked as an Emergency Operations Officer during the recovery and salvage efforts of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
Currently, he is at a 63 Works Group Royal Engineers, a specialist technical unit that provides the Armed Forces with infrastructure advice in support of UK Defence and ongoing global operations.
Capt Hoban is married to his wife Sophie, who works for IFAW, supporting the rescue and welfare of endangered animals. He is a keen mountaineer, yoga enthusiast and Newcastle United fan.
