Emerging Engineers Award finalists from across the West Midlands will present their civil engineering-related papers. Attendees can enjoy engaging presentations and gain valuable insights from the judging panel. All welcome to attend online!

The Emerging Engineers Award (EEA) promotes and rewards excellence in the communication of civil engineering ideas and innovation, research, and best practice on projects/design. The presentations will be followed by question-and-answer sessions where audience members are encouraged to participate.

Attending the EEA regional final offers a great chance to:

Serena Gough

Serena is a Senior Engineer working in the Urban Highways team at Arcadis in Birmingham.  She has worked in the highways transportation sector since graduation and prior to this was an ICE QUEST Undergraduate Scholar.  Serena has experience in the design and delivery management of active travel, bus rapid transit, park and ride design and corridor and junction improvement schemes.  She has worked on projects across the United Kingdom, particularly in the West Midlands and has also worked internationally in Dublin.

Giles Atkinson

Giles Atkinson is currently working on the Sizewell C project as technical services lead for the Civil Works Alliance. He has over 30 years experience working for contractors and designers on a number of complex schemes including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Blackfriars Station, and Crossrail. 

 He is the current ICE West Midlands Regional Chair for 2025-26.
