I started working for Doran Consulting after a placement as a student at Queen’s University Belfast. Now I'm a chartered civil engineer with their water team.
In my current role I’ve been working on the Northern Ireland Water Professional Services Framework. This has meant getting involved in a wide range of tasks including project management, procurement, design co-ordination and appraisals for feasibility studies. I've also had to ensure client satisfaction at every stage.
At home, I'm a mum to two children under the age of three and also an avid sports enthusiast, which makes my weekends pretty busy.
I had always been motivated to gain a professional qualification and was able to get on a company training scheme. My employer gave me a high level of support and I gained lots of relevant experience, which helped me to pass my review in 2009.
Becoming MICE has definitely been a highlight of my career. There are many benefits to doing it: I think it helps you to become a well-rounded engineer. It also sets you on the right path to continue your professional development. That is vital in this job where you have to keep up with the fast pace of industry change.
My qualification has not only increased my career prospects but my confidence as well.
