In Oct 2015, the ICE HK Association arranged a delegation trip to Beijing and Fujian to explore the development strategy “One-Belt-One-Road”, also known as the “Belt and Road Initiative”, proposed and announced by the Chinese Government in 2013 and with the outline published in 2015. After the intensive 6-day delegation trip, traveling from Hong Kong to Beijing, Fuzhou, Xiamen and back to Hong Kong, this report summarises the findings and thoughts raised by some of the delegates.

The “Belt and Road Initiative” underlines China’s push to take a bigger role in global affairs. Attracting increasing international attention, the global impact brought by this Initiative should not be undermined. As a broad-minded Civil Engineer, one should always keep one’s mind on the flow of international trend and on how this would impact our construction industry, both globally and locally. We believe this document would at least give our some insights to start with.
