Response to Kent County Council’s Local Transport Plan

ICE South East England responds to Kent County Council’s plans for transport infrastructure up to 2031

The ICE South East England Transport Panel has responded to Kent County Council’s Local Transport Plan (LTP).

The LTP aims to provide a strategy for transport infrastructure over the next 15 years, highlighting a number of key projects such as the Lower Thames Crossing, the M20 Stanford West Lorry Area and improvements to rail at Ebbsfleet and Ashford.

Responding to the plan, ICE South East England has agreed with the general direction of the LTP, but have highlighted a number of areas where improvements could be made. These include focusing infrastructure investment on key productivity clusters and focusing on the East-West rail link between Ashford and Brighton as a way of providing visitors with an alternative route to going through London.

The response also reiterates a number of positions set out by the Panel in previous consultations, including the need for a light rail link alongside the Lower Thames Crossing and for a smaller lorry area at Stanford West as a solution to Operation Stack.

This consultation has been produced by the ICE South East England Transport Panel:
