Civil Engineering Awards

The ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity around the South West. The winners will be announced at our awards dinner on Friday 8th July by Sir John Armitt.

Recognising individual achievement

Showcasing the efforts of our members is important and helps recognise their individual expertise and contribution to the profession.

Technician of the Year Award

Technician of the Year award

The Technician Award celebrates the achievement of ICE technician members. The award goes to the technician who best demonstrates the nine engineering technician attributes in their Professional Review project report.

Emerging Engineers Award

Emerging Engineers Award

Are you a graduate or student member of ICE? Are you looking for an opportunity to practice your writing and presentation skills? Why not sign up for our Emerging Engineers Award?

This competition is perfect preparation for a viva or Professional Review. It will also:

  • raise your profile
  • help promote your university or employer
  • give you the opportunity to have your paper published.

All graduate and student members can enter, presenting papers on any area of engineering design, research or practice.

And you don’t have to start from scratch! You are welcome to adapt:

  • professional development reports (graduate members)
  • Professional Review reports (graduate members)
  • university projects or theses, preferably based upon your own work (student members).

Competition heats take place across ICE’s regions in winter/spring. Winning papers are then shortlisted, with three regional finalists competing at a national final scheduled for later in the year.

The South West Regional Final will take place at the start of March in Taunton, with a top prize of £250!

The competition is now open, with the entry form available using the link below. South West deadlines are as follows:

  • Entry submission: Friday 29th January
  • Full paper submission for selected regional finalists: Mon 22nd February
  • Regional final: Tuesday 2nd March

National competition

The Emerging Engineers Award culminates in a national competition. 3 winners from across the UK are selected to take part in the final, held at our headquarters in London.

The selected finalists each present their papers, with the overall winner receiving a cash prize and the prestigious Institution Medal.
