ICE education and inspiration programme reaches out in new ways

This year we’ve helped over 30,000 young people have fun and get an understanding of what civil engineering is, thanks to the work of our volunteer members and regional teams

Education and Inspiration programme reaches more people.
Education and Inspiration programme reaches more people.

Highlights have included:

  • Meeting 3,000 young people on our stand at the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham's NEC, with support from over 100 volunteers from eight civil engineering companies.
  • 15 ICE members being listed in the Daily Telegraph Top 50 Women in Engineering list on Women in Engineering Day in June, providing credible role models for young women.
  • The Bridges to Schools scheme engaged with 700 young people in Wales during the school summer holidays including at the National Botanical Gardens and at the National Eisteddfod.
  • 60 budding engineers from St. Paul's Primary School in Camden helped ICE test our new exhibition space at One Great George Street in November, so we can plan for the future.
  • Regions continue to find innovative ways to inspire young people. For example working with the University of Liverpool to help primary school children to design and build a model for a new roof truss for Anfield Stadium using the latest 3D printing technology.
