Hong Kong Emerging Engineers Award heat opens for entries

The ICE Hong Kong Association Graduates and Students Division (HKA G&S) competition promotes and rewards excellence in communication of civil engineering ideas, research, and best practice on projects and designs.

The Hong Kong heat of the Emerging Engineers Award competition is now open for entries.

All ICE HKA graduate and student members, including apprentices, have been invited to take part in the international competition, which requires them to submit papers on four areas of engineering design, research or practice.

After competing in the Hong Kong regional final, the winner may be shortlisted to compete at the global Emerging Engineers Award final, held online in 2022, for the chance to win a cash prize and the Institution Medal.

Entrants can be from academic institutions or from industry. The deadline for entries is 31 October 2021.

How to enter

Conditions of entry: The author must be a current Graduate or Student Member of ICE at the time of entering the awards, or a current apprentice holding graduate, student, EngTech MICE or IEng MICE membership. Further entry details are provided in the application form

Submission method: The paper should be submitted via an application form, which can be found here.

Regional final: Shortlisted candidates will be allocated a total time of 20 minutes -10 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. The regional final will be held in January 2022.

Presentations should be fluent, informative and easy to understand. When introducing the paper, it is recommended to emphasise the most important features and explain the approaches to the topic.

Prizes

Winner – a certificate and cash prize of HK$2,000

First runner-up prize – a certificate and cash prize of HK$1,500

Second runner-up prize – a certificate and cash prize of HK$1,000

Merit prize – a certificate and cash prize of HK$500

Shortlisted – a certificate

Winners will also have the opportunity to have their paper published in ICE HKA’s newsletter ICE Breaker.
