ICE members recognised in New Year's Honours list 2019

A number of people in the civil engineering community have been included in the Queen's annual list.

Four ICE Fellows have been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list. 

Alison Nimmo, Chief Executive of The Crown Estate, was awarded a DBE for public service and services to the Exchequer, and Dr Jennifer Mary Schooling was awarded an OBE for services to engineering and digital construction.  

Dr Schooling is the director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction at the University of Cambridge.   

   

CBEs were awarded to ICE Fellows Kenneth James Allison, Director, and Alison Jill Baptiste, Flood and Coastal Risk Management Director, both at the Environment Agency, for services to the environment. 

Another ICE member, John Gibbon Wood, Chairman of Tolent Construction Ltd, was awarded a CBE for services to the building and civil engineering industry.  

Other notable industry professionals recognised in the New Year’s Honours List 2019 

OBEs were awarded to: 

  • Abolade Akinwale Abisogun, CEO of Urbanis Ltd, for services to diversity and young people in the construction industry. 
  • Catherine Anne De Marco, Deputy Director for Infrastructure Skills and Efficiency, Department for Transport, for services to transport skills. 
  • Professor Daniel Grelan Gorman, for voluntary services to the promotion of science and engineering and STEM education in Kilmarnock and Ayrshire. 

MBEs were awarded to: 

  • Susan Scurlock, Founder and CEO of Primary Engineer, for services to education and engineering. 
  • Stefanie Katherine Stead, Regional Chair, Yorkshire and Humber Construction Industry Council  and Principal at Stead & Co, for services to architecture and the construction Industry 
  • Finally, Fiona Alderson, Technical Services Manager in the School of Engineering at The University of Edinburgh, received a BEM for services to engineering and education.
