Candidates who complete their Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Training Scheme A will no longer need to wait a year after completing their training before sitting an ICE Professional Review.

ICE has revised a decision taken in 2016 concerning the Initial Professional Development (IPD) Panel requirements for candidates on the training scheme in a civil discipline or geotechnical discipline.

Originally, candidates were required to undertake a further 12 months' experience after completing the training scheme before they could sit an ICE Professional Review.
ICE's IPD Panel reviewed the 2016 change in light of recent Professional Review results and the academic requirement to demonstrate master's level learning for Washington Accord degree holders who started a bachelor's degree programme after 30 June 2015.

The decision applies with immediate effect and benefits any candidate who started on an HKIE training scheme on or after 1 January 2017.
