The Newtown Bypass and Greener Grangetown Projects were awarded ICE Wales Cymru’s most prestigious project awards at its annual awards dinner on 14 June 2019.
The awards celebrate civil engineering achievements on an individual as well as project basis.
ICE President Andrew Wyllie presented glass trophies and certificates to the winners.
The awards ceremony was hosted by BBC Radio Wales presenter Lynn Bowles, and attended by over 230 people, including civil engineers from across Wales.

Winners of the individual awards
Ben Barr Award (for best performance in a member’s professional review): Panagiotis Manis and Annie Jenkins
Paterson Prize (for the best written exercise in a member’s professional review): Dr Thomas St John
Apprentice of the Year (based on an assessment of civil engineering apprentices across Wales): Francis Lewis

George Gibby Award (best project over £3m): Newtown Bypass
Roy Edwards Award (best project under £3m): Greener Grangetown Project
Bill Ward Sustainability Award (presented to the project which best demonstrates the principles of sustainability, i.e. social, economic and environmental benefits of the project during delivery and upon completion): Colwyn Bay Waterfront Project
Designed in Wales Award (Presented to the best project that has demonstrated outstanding design and construction and which as been designed in Wales and constructed elsewhere (either in the UK or overseas): Totnes Flood Defence Improvements.
