Incoming ICE President Professor Tim Broyd gets set to give his inaugural address ‘Engineering a digital future’

Professor Broyd will become the 152nd President to hold this prestigious post, taking over from Sir John Armitt.

His speech will set out his aspirations for his year of office as he becomes the 152nd President to hold this prestigious post.

Tim is Professor of Built Environment Foresight as well as Honorary Professor of Civil Engineering at University College London. He has spent most of his career developing and deploying innovative approaches to solve industrial problems, and has been corporate director of technology, innovation and sustainability at global engineering consultancies as well as a period running the civil engineering research company CIRIA.

Tim's major current interests include digital engineering, infrastructure resilience and decision taking in a world of increasing uncertainty. Both a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the ICE, Tim is greatly respected in the industry. He is currently a Vice Chairman of the Construction Industry Council and a Director of both BuildingSmart (UK) Ltd and CEEQUAL Limited.

He will use his one year tenure to engage with members both in the UK and internationally, helping to showcase the valuable contribution that civil engineers make to society. His Engineering a digital future theme will support ICE’s existing infrastructure transformation work, encouraging engineers to use a new digital era to deliver infrastructure improvements for society.

Working alongside him will be his six UK based, and two international President’s Apprentices who will each participate in one of several projects to help make a real contribution to the profession.
