This year's MERIT (Management, Enterprise, Risk, Innovation and Teamwork) competition for young engineers is now open for registration.
The web-based computer simulation allows young engineering professionals operating in groups of four, acting as a board of directors and managers, to run their own construction company.
Taking part is great preparation for future roles in industry, with opportunities for participants to learn about company, business, and financial management.
The game gives participants the opportunity to learn more about themselves and about the industry they're working in. From people skills to the practicalities of managing a business, the competition encourages young engineers to challenge their thinking and their approach, providing an opportunity to experience higher-level decision making in senior management roles.
Taking part in the competition also encourages young engineers to explore alternative ways in which to approach challenges and tasks they may face.
What does the competition involve?
MERIT 2021 has been set up to model a construction industry operating in an economy emerging from a recession, with up-to-date bank interest rates and charges, and current corporation tax.
Learning to survive as a construction business in tough market conditions with fierce competition is the knowledge especially needed by our industry executives right now.
After completing eight rounds simulating two years of trading, the top six teams will be invited to experience a further two years of simulated business trading in the MERIT 2021 final. The winning team will be presented with ICE’s silver trophy salver and named the 2021 MERIT Champions.
