The new Welsh Ministerial Construction Forum will aim to develop a post Covid-19 recovery plan, development of a sustainable construction industry and to support the sector to build a better society, for the future. It is chaired by the Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Economy and Transport, Lee Waters.
The Covid-19 pandemic forms the focus of the forum’s initial activities, which exposed the fragility of the sector in terms of its business models and long-term sustainability but has also highlighted its importance to society in maintaining and developing the resilience of our infrastructure.
Many businesses employed 'key workers' providing essential services in response to the pandemic, including the building of temporary hospitals and the supply of vital building materials. If both aspects are to be addressed, close engagement and collaboration between government and industry will be essential.
ICE Wales Cymru will work alongside the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE) and other Professional Institutions in Wales.
Meetings are scheduled to be held bi-annually, or as required. However, potentially, they will be needed monthly as the forum addresses the urgent Covid-19 responses.
