On 16 November, ICE Northern Ireland held a roundtable discussion about the future of digital technologies in the construction industry.
Among the points of consensus was the necessity for open data across public sector construction clients, as well as the need to think "smart" beyond construction to include planning, procurement and asset management. The group also discussed the important role regulators have to play in fostering innovation throughout the sector.
"At the moment, industry is developing capability within encapsulated little islands – we need to get better at linking up with each other in order to grow collectively," said Richard Kirk, Regional Director of ICE Northern Ireland.
"Smart infrastructure is stretching the sector in exciting and unexpected ways," he added. "By bringing together experts from all corners of industry to share knowledge, ICE is well poised to continue its thought leadership with the aim of delivering better results for society."
