The search is on for Scotland’s top engineering and construction projects with the launch of the 2020/21 Scottish Civil Engineering Awards.

The awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity in Scotland. Jointly hosted by ICE Scotland and Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Scotland, they are widely recognised as the highest honour for engineering excellence in the built environment sector.

Past winners include the V&A Museum of Design in Dundee, the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the Stronelairg and Melgarve Substations project. The later was also nominated for the ICE People’s Choice Award, which encourages the public to vote on a project which had the most positive impact on a local community.

The awards are open to any engineering projects completed in Scotland during 2019 and 2021. There are a range of categories, including Greatest Contribution to Scotland; Best Infrastructure Project;; Sustainability and Resilience; and Community.

ICE Scotland Director, Hannah Smith, said the awards are a unique opportunity to showcase the success of Scotland’s civil engineers.

“We are delighted to be bringing back these prestigious awards in conjunction with CECA Scotland. Over the past 12 months in particular, we’ve all come to realise the importance of the environments around us. These awards are a chance to highlight the real difference civil engineering makes to Scotland’s people and places.

“We are really looking forward to receiving this year’s entries and to once again celebrating Scotland’s civil engineering sector.”

Nominations must be received by 5pm on Friday 18 June. The panel are keen to receive entries from projects of all sizes – and of initiatives brought forward to support project delivery through the Covid-19 pandemic.
