The Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust (QUEST) was set up in 1977 to support and encourage education in civil engineering. The awards are associated with excellence, looking for those with an aptitude for teamwork, leadership skills and ambition. The selection process for these awards is very competitive and attracts high-calibre applicants.
Christopher Davies from Merthyr Tydfil and Martin Grey from Llanelli, who both attend Bridgend College of Technology; Rhys Davies from Treharris and Niall Blunt from Cardiff both attending Coleg Gwent; and Francesca Barlow from Buckley, Clwyd, who attends Coleg Cambria, will each receive £1,500.
Keith Jones, ICE Wales Cymru Director said: “QUEST Scholarships are awarded to those achieving and striving for the highest standards. All our new scholars have shown a great enthusiasm for engineering and will use the QUEST Scholarship to aid them in their studies.”
The QUEST Technician Scholarship provides financial support for engineering students in further or higher education, whilst they are also obtaining technical and practical engineering experience with employers.
The standard of entries for this year’s QUEST Scholarships was extremely high, with entrants from all over Wales. All five successful students excelled in their interviews and displayed excellent knowledge of the civil engineering industry. ICE awarded a total of 60 scholarships across the UK.
