The Privy Council approved changes to the ICE’s Royal Charter and By-Laws at its meeting on 10 November 2021 - Royal Charter and By-laws 2021.

This follows the ballot held between 1 June - 13 July 2021 in which members voted in favour of the governance changes. The Privy Council will issue the signed and sealed copies of the Orders in due course.

The changes

Technician Members have been re-designated as ‘Corporate Members’ with full voting rights. The voting rights of Graduate members have been extended to entitle them to vote on subscription rate changes, elections of Ordinary Members to the Trustee Board, elections of members to the Council and resolutions at Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings.

Other changes include amendment of the Rules of Professional Conduct in line with best practice, removal of defunct and inactive membership grades, and corrections to the Royal Charter and By-laws syntax.

The changes will come into effect on 30 November 2021.

Details of these changes and information on the upcoming ballot opening on 1 February 2022, where members will be asked to vote on a resolution about the introduction of the protected title of Chartered Infrastructure Engineer, can be found on the Governance Updates page.
