Sir John Armitt, ICE Past President, has been busy visiting a number of countries before he passed the reign to the current President, Tim Broyd. He has visited 11 countries during his Presidential year and has helped raise the awareness of ICE and strengthen ICE links with local professional bodies, employers and universities. Here are some of the highlights from the last few months:
In Asia Pacific, Sir John Armitt visited 12 cities in five countries whereby he did:
- Seven university visits
- 14 Presidential Addresses
- Visit some of the biggest infrastructure projects in the regions including Western Australia's Stadium station that will service the new Australian Football League (AFL) Perth Stadium
- Meet with local professional engineering bodies in New Zealand and Sri Lanka
In Middle East, the Past President met a cross section of ICE members and government ministers. During his visit, Sir Armitt presented a Presidential invitation to fellowship to HE Eng Awaidha al Marar, the Chairman of Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport of Abu Dhabi and the Chairman of Etihad Rail.
Sir Armitt also met with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Executive Council.
