Britain needs certainty on infrastructure strategy following delay, says ICE

06 March 2020

Responding to reports that the Government will delay publication of the National Infrastructure Strategy, Chris Richards, ICE Head of Policy and Public Affairs, said:

“Less than a month ago, the Government were set to publish a National Infrastructure Strategy alongside the Budget. While we recognise there is a new Chancellor and that naturally, he will want to review it, Britain has been waiting a long time for progress.

"The Chancellor has the benefit of having on his desk, both a draft Strategy and detailed expertise produced by the National Infrastructure Commission some 19 months ago. Next week's Budget statement should therefore set-out the specific sticking points holding back publication of the Strategy, outlining where further evidence is required.

“We also ask the Government to commit, quickly, to a publication date that they can deliver on. This will provide some certainty on when Britain will get the infrastructure strategy needed to achieve a more strategic and joined-up approach on issues from flood risk management to decarbonising energy networks."
