Chris Richards, Director of Policy at the Institution of Civil Engineers said:
"Today’s energy security strategy is ambitiously packaged to bring forth a net-zero world. However, as with so many recent government announcements on infrastructure, it is key that we swiftly see policy turn into action or there will be no change.
"We would expect the first step for any energy security strategy to be about reducing demand, by retrofitting homes or using energy more efficiently – but today’s strategy contains too little by way of new proposals.
"The unfortunate reality is that until the UK has consistent and effective policy on the greening of homes and day to day running of infrastructure networks, we are more likely to see bills climb and be at the mercy of supply fluctuations."
