Babcock engineer joins ICE as chartered civil engineer

Gavin Belcher, civil design engineer at Babcock International Group, has been awarded membership of ICE as a chartered civil engineer.

As part of Babcock’s graduate scheme, Belcher gained experience working in the nuclear regulated industry and has been involved in many projects that have required specialist input from concept design stage through to completion.

“I’ve always had an interest in engineering. Seeing some of the landmark buildings or bridges that have stood for generations triggered a desire to become a civil engineer and to be able to point to my involvement in similar landmark projects which benefit local communities,” he said.

Based at Devonport Dockyard Plymouth, Belcher went to school in Barnstaple, Devon, and studied at Swansea University.

ICE President Andrew Wyllie presented Belcher with his membership certificate at a special ceremony at ICE’s headquarters in Westminster, London.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West regional director, congratulated Gavin on his success:

“Achieving chartered civil engineer status is a significant personal and career achievement and we are proud to welcome Gavin as a member of ICE.”
