Combatting construction’s mental health crisis

ICE is supporting Movember to change the face of men’s health.

Combatting construction’s mental health crisis

Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends are facing a health crisis that isn’t being talked about.

We want men to take action to live happier, healthier, longer lives. Men die on average six years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons.

Unchecked, prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 75% of all suicides.

A crisis in the construction industry

Unfortunately for the construction industry, the crisis is even more pronounced, with more than one worker taking their own life every day – this is three times the average UK rate for men in any other industry.

ICE is proud to be supporting Movember this year to ensure men across the built environment know about their health, the risks they face and how to become men of more words to help them through difficult times.

For more information on men’s mental health and resources on how to have those important conversations, you can visit the Movember website.

Movember is the leading charity dedicated to changing the face of men's health around the world.

It does this by investing in these critical areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. It knows what works for men, and how to find and fund the most innovative research to have both a global and local impact.

It challenges the status quo and invests quicker in what works. In 15 years, Movember has funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world.

Whatever you grow will save a bro

ICE is encouraging members to change the face of men’s health. This Movember, whatever you grow will save a bro.

Your support will change the face of men’s health, raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. Sign up today.

You don’t have to grow to save a bro, you can also Move and commit to walking or running 60 km, or host an event, like a quiz night, a football match or shave-down to kick off your fundraising.

Movember is also the chosen charity at London Build this year, and on 27 November 2019 will be hosting a panel on mental health and wellbeing in the construction industry. Tickets are free, so to find out more, visit the London Build site.
