Competition to find the Emerging Engineer of the Year opens

Graduate and student members of ICE in Northern Ireland have been invited to enter this year’s Emerging Engineer Award.

The competition promotes and rewards excellence in the originality and communication of civil engineering and research.

Entrants are asked to submit articles, projects or papers on any topic related to civil engineering. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of £1,500, a medal, and their paper may also be published.

Submissions should preferably be based on entrants' own work and can be adapted from university and employment research papers, or an essay.

Why enter?

The Emerging Engineers Award provides entrants with an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent to the engineering community and peers.

Students and graduates can use the competition to boost their self-marketing skills and confidence in public speaking, as well as improve their written and verbal skills in readiness for their Professional Review.

Shortlisted competitors will also have a chance to network with industry VIPs at the ICE awards ceremony at One Great George Street in London.

Entry process

  1. Submit the application form, together with an approximately 400-word synopsis of your paper to [email protected] by 5pm, 10 January 2020
  2. You will be contacted directly to confirm whether you have been selected by 24 January 2020 to provide a full-length copy of your paper by 21 February 2020.
  3. ICE NI will select entries to be presented in the regional heat on 2 March 2020.
  4. The winners selected at the regional heat are further shortlisted to three finalists who will present their papers again at the Emerging Engineers Final in Autumn 2020 at One Great George Street, London where the overall winner will be selected.
