ICE President Ed McCann has asked members to support the institution’s Benevolent Fund (Ben Fund) by filling in a short survey on their knowledge of the services it provides.

The aim of the survey is to raise the Ben Fund’s profile so it can reach the members who need its support, especially during the current cost of living and energy crises.

McCann asked: “Do you think your colleagues are aware of the Ben Fund and know that access to it is a big part of the benefit of an ICE membership? I suspect the answer might be no...”

Those who answer the survey also have the chance to win a £100 Amazon voucher in a prize draw taking place on 12 December.

There are three vouchers available for UK respondents and another three for overseas respondents.

The survey takes three minutes to complete.

The ICE Ben Fund

The ICE Ben Fund supports civil engineers that are or have been members of the institution, as well as their families.

As ICE President and patron of the Ben Fund, Ed McCann has learned more about this support during his presidency.

He said: “I had no idea that the Ben Fund did so much and helped so many of us in a variety of different ways.”

The Ben Fund has a range of services to support engineers through challenging situations such as redundancy, illness and bereavement.

It can also help with career progression and financial planning.

Services include counselling, career coaching, online learning, and financial support in the form of grants, supported housing, among others.

“We want everyone who needs support to be able to access the help on offer,” said McCann.

“With the current energy crisis, rising costs and rampant inflation, there are more of our community in need than you think.”
