ICE Hong Kong has hosted its first live certificate presentation ceremony since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Seventeen new ICE Fellows and 184 newly-elected members, joined by their families and friends, received their membership certificates from Ricky Lau JP, ICE representative for Hong Kong on 23 October 2021.

In a video message, ICE Past President Rachel Skinner congratulated the new members, and stressed the importance of “sharing a common purpose as professional civil engineers, improving lives right across the world in balance with the needs of the natural world around us”.

“While we are one of the oldest professional engineering institutions in the world, we are also one of the most progressive, and you are a very much part of our onward vision as we take up the world's key challenges including Covid recovery, the climate crisis, population growth, social inequalities and similar,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ricky Lau highlighted the challenges ahead for civil engineers to deliver Hong Kong’s ambitious infrastructure programme.

He said: “The opportunities are clearly open in terms of infrastructure development in Hong Kong. With total construction output forecast to increase to around HK$300bn a year to support the continuous development, civil engineers like us have a crucial and exciting role to play as we gear up Hong Kong’s infrastructure to the new golden era.”

Nearly 500 people attended the ceremony in Hong Kong.

London ceremony and the ICE shop

The first certificate presentation ceremony to take place at ICE headquarters, One Great George Street, since the beginning of the pandemic will be on Monday 6 December.
There will be an ICE shop stand at the event for the purchase of commemorative items. Members can also order ICE branded goods from ICE's online shop.
