Civil engineers who can help inspire young people to explore apprenticeship careers are being called to take part in the England and Wales 2022 National Apprenticeship Week.

The England and Wales 2022 National Apprenticeship Week takes place between 07-13 February. The theme of ‘Build the Future’ focuses on the benefits apprenticeships can have on individuals, businesses, and local communities.

Ways to take part

Current and past apprentices can answer career-seekers’ questions online using most major social media platforms by responding to the hashtag #AskAnApprentice between 12pm-2pm on Wednesday 09 February.

Any civil engineers planning to take part are encouraged to let ICE’s careers team know, so that they can offer guidance and follow respondents to help share answers to a wider audience.

ICE’s careers team would also like to hear from any civil engineers interested in recording a short video message to inspire young people to explore an apprenticeship in civil engineering, before the end of January.

ICE STEM Ambassadoors can also take part in National Apprenticeship Week by giving a virtual careers talk at a school. More information can be found on the STEM Learning website, or by contacting ICE for advice in arranging and delivering one.

Apprenticeship weeks in Northern Ireland and Scotland

ICE members are also encouraged to get involved with Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week (07-11 February) and Scottish Apprenticeship Week (07-11 March 2022). Contact the relevant ICE region to find out more.

Webinar: what's it like being a civil engineering apprentice?

View and share this recording of our November 2020 webinar to learn more about civil engineering apprenticeships.

Featuring apprentices Lucy and Dylan, apprentice turned educator Vicky and top industry employer Sarah, find out how apprentices study, what qualifications they get, how desirable qualified apprentices are to employers (spoiler alert – very!) and top tips for applying.

The webinar was part of the ICE Inspiration Series online careers programme for students and educational establishments who want to explore the rewarding and diverse world of civil engineering careers.

Apprenticeship support and guidance

ICE is firmly committed to supporting all involved with their apprenticeship programme.

Our apprenticeship hub is packed with handy advice and practical information for potential apprentices, employers and training providers.

And of course, apprentices can access a wealth of support and member benefits when they join ICE.
