Trustees have recommended that changes are made to the By-laws and shall be put to a Member ballot in 2021.
The Trustee Board have agreed the Council’s recommendation that voting rights should be extended for both Technician and Graduate members.
Members will be asked to approve these changes in a membership ballot over the summer next year.
At their September meeting, Trustees agreed ICE Council’s recommendation that Technician Members should be granted full corporate voting rights. Trustees will propose amendments to the By-laws to allow Technician Members and ask Members to approve the changes in the 2021 ballot.
Trustees and Council have spent the past eighteen months debating whether to extend voting rights for Graduate members. There has been very wide consultation and membership debate. Council has made a number of recommendations to the Trustee Board.
Trustees will propose amendments to the By-laws which will entitle Graduate members to vote on:
- Subscription rate changes
- Elections of Ordinary Members to the Trustee Board
- Elections of members to the Council
- Resolutions at Annual General Meetings and Special General Meetings
Trustee Board and Council were undecided as to whether Graduate members should be entitled to requisition the Trustee Board to convene a Special General Meeting. Members will be asked to vote on this proposed amendment separately.
Because the Institution must now consult relevant Government Departments, Trustees will be asked to approve the exact wording of the By-law changes at their meeting in February 2021. Members will then be asked to vote in the ballot which opens on 1 June 2021. Please visit the Governance Updates page for the latest information.
