UK data protection fee: are you compliant?

Deadline for the ICO's data protection fee is approaching.

UK data protection fee: are you compliant?

ICE members who have not paid their data protection fee must do so by 18 June 2021.

In March 2020, The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) wrote to ICE members and the wider UK construction industry, advising on their legal obligation to register with the ICO and pay the data protection fee.

All UK organisations holding or processing personal information electronically (including using CCTV for crime prevention reasons) and are not exempt are required to pay the fee by the deadline of 18 June 2021. This deadline this has been delayed from March 2021 owing to the pandemic. For most companies the fee is £40 or £60 per year; fees can be paid online at

Some ICE members will be exempt from this fee, but will still need to notify the ICO of their exemption by completing the exemption form online by 18 June.

More information specifically for the construction industry is available on the ICO’s website.
