The response was informed by previous research conducted by the ICE for State of the Nation 2018: Infrastructure Investment and our policy paper on Achieving Sustainable Roads Funding in England.
The response focuses on what would likely be three core impacts if the policy to end the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans by 2035 were implemented.
- The impact on funding for road maintenance and the need to explore alternatives.
- The extent to which roadside furniture will need to be expanded and the road network retrofitted.
- The impact on demand for power and interdependencies between the road sector and the power sector.
