ICE submission to the Economic Affairs Committee’s inquiry on UK energy supply and investment

This submission discusses ICE’s views on some of the public policy challenges concerning the UK’s energy supply over the next decade, including:

  • Taking a blended approach to decarbonised energy generation
  • The role of hydrogen in the future energy mix
  • The challenges around decarbonising heating
  • Closing the adaptation and resilience deficit to ensure infrastructure can withstand the rising risks linked to a changing climate

It also examines measures that could help incentivise investment in low carbon energy, including:

  • Strengthening net-zero governance
  • Continuing to evolve existing mechanisms such as Contracts for Difference and the RAB model
  • Supporting nascent markets and technologies
  • Building a compelling public narrative and supporting consumers
