The 2023 NEC Annual Conference will feature high-profile speakers from government and industry.
NEC Contracts will mark its 30th anniversary at this year’s annual conference which will host experts from across the world at the ICE HQ, One Great George Street in London.
The 2023 NEC Annual Conference will feature a diverse range of high-profile speakers from the government and industry, showcasing case studies and looking ahead to the future.
The conference will begin with opening remarks from Janet Young, the new director general and secretary of the ICE.
The keynote address will be delivered by Ir Ricky Lau, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) for the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The conference will take place on 13 July 2023 in a hybrid format.

Programme highlights
Highlights from the morning sessions include updates from Ian Heaphy and Dale Evans, NEC4 board members.
They will talk about the latest developments on NEC and Project 13, NEC for international and cross-industry application, and the recent NEC4 amendments.
This will be followed by a session on the refreshed Construction Playbook from Hadleigh Standen, deputy director, strategic partnering programme at the Cabinet Office, and Shy Jackson, partner at Bryan Cave Leighton Aisner.
They will be discussing the updated version including the new guidance notes and how NEC complies with and achieves the aims of the playbook.
The programme will also feature presentations on collaborative contracting in Australia and South Africa from speakers Peter Colacino, Steve Evans, Andrew Baird, and Mile Sofijanic.
With increasing adoptions of NEC internationally, these sessions will provide a unique perspective on how NEC contracts can be used across the world by any industry to deliver major infrastructure projects.
Case studies and practical workshops
NEC will also showcase case studies where delegates can discover the real-life benefits of using NEC.
There will be four practical workshops on the use of retention funds under NEC, the information management of NEC DBO Contract, practical tips on subcontracting with NEC, including an interactive mock dispute avoidance board workshop.
Finally, a speaker panel discussion on the future of contracting will round out the afternoon’s programme.
Martin Barnes Awards
The day will conclude with the Martin Barnes Awards ceremony in the evening.
This year's ceremony will include a cocktail reception, three-course dinner, Martin Barnes Awards presentation and after-dinner entertainment.
The winners of the Martin Barnes Awards will be announced at the ceremony.
There will also be opportunities for attendees to network with industry experts and NEC users and exhibitors during breaks and at the evening reception.
