The seminars were attended by 17 persons comprising APESL members as well as graduate and corporate members of the ICE.

In the first seminar, Don Samuel, the ICE West Indies Representative presented the topic "Becoming Chartered - A Caribbean Perspective". The presentation also included an introduction to the ICE and a summary of membership statistics of the ICEWILA and the activities undertaken since the ICEWILA was launched in 2010.

There was much interest in the process with some of the questions asked following the seminar focusing on the process involved in an academic assessment and the pathway for an engineer with several years’ experience to become chartered.

The second seminar “Critical Success Factors Influencing Project Success in Developing Countries” was presented by the ICEWILA Chairman Leighton Ellis, PhD. The seminar was based on a survey of consultants, clients and contractors in Trinidad and Tobago. The survey respondents had been asked to rank 33 success factors; the presentation focused on the top 10 success factors. Dr. Ellis first asked the attendees to define project success then engaged them in a discussion as to the reasons for a ranking by the project team members. The presentations can be found here.

The evening concluded with the signing of an Agreement of Cooperation between the ICE and the APESL. The Agreement was signed by the APESL’s President Justin Sealy and the APESL’ Secretary Verne Emmanuel. The agreement aims to promote the development of a closer working relationship between the Institution and the APESL to the mutual benefit of their members and in the interests of the engineering profession.
