Beth West, Commercial Director of High Speed Two, was the guest speaker of the final Fellows Breakfast Briefing of the year on Friday 13th November, attended by more than 20 high profile members of the industry, including representatives from Mott MacDonald, the Engineering Council, Jacobs and Arup.

Beth gave a presentation about the progress of HS2 and described how the project would be a world-leader in developing skills, innovation and collaboration within the industry. Her presentation was followed by a roundtable discussion led by ICE London Fellows Champion Lawrie Quinn, with guests discussing how diversity can be promoted and what the industry can do to ensure better procurement procedures, amongst a number of other issues.

Beth joined HS2 Ltd in October 2012 as Commercial Director from Thames Water where she was Head of Commercial for the Thames Tideway Tunnel project. Prior to joining Thames Water Beth spent eight years at Transport for London (TfL).

The Breakfast was delivered in association with Topcon, a global market leading company that develops and manufactures precise satellite positioning products and software solutions for civil engineering and surveying.

As part of a series of briefings, the Fellow's Breakfasts provide the opportunity for twenty senior members of the industry to be briefed on a particular topical matter and for the fellows to share their insights on the issue. Previous speakers at past breakfasts include Sir Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and Baroness Valentine, Chief Executive of London First.

A new programme of Breakfast Briefings will begin in the New Year. For more information on the briefings, or to find out more information about becoming a fellow, please contact Max Sugarman at: max.sugarman@ice.org.uk.
