Geotechnical tutors in British Universities are invited annually to submit what they consider to be the best dissertation from their collective students for consideration for this prestigious Award. The criteria has recently been extended to embrace MEng students as well as those studying for their MSc and must be supported by a citation letter from the supervisor outlining why the dissertation is considered to be worthy of the prize.

Srikanth Madabhushi, of Trinity College, University of Cambridge, was adjudged the winner for work carried out in 2013/14 on "Investigating the Deformation Mechanisms beneath Shallow Foundations" and received £500 from the BGA.

He was presented with a certificate recording this achievement at the Fleming Award Evening 2015 on 9th December.
