Can toys shape the future of engineers?

ICE will hold its first major Christmas exhibition – ‘Past, Presents and Future’ – in the Library this December. The Christmas themed exhibition will celebrate engineering and showcase how Christmas is a magical time to inspire children with creative toys.

The ICE exhibition will feature an ‘Engineering Challenge’ competition for visiting school groups and children, featuring a reindeer and sleigh. The aim of the competition is to encourage future engineers to submit their ideas and designs on how Santa would deliver all the toys around the world today if his traditional reindeer sleigh was to break down. The child with the best idea will win a trip to Lego land for their class.

Build future cities

During the exhibition, there will be opportunities to create a ‘city of the future’ with Meccano, Lego and Knex toys beneath the 12-foot Christmas tree, for children (and adults alike) to play and build future cities.

A live interactive twitter feed will be displayed during the 2 week event, where exhibition visitors and ICE members around the world are encouraged to join the conversation using the hashtag #EngineeringElves.

Relive your childhood memories with our inspiring Christmas card wall, designed by ICE members and ICE staff. Each Christmas card will show a photo of how a Christmas present from their childhood inspired them to become an engineer. Please share your memories with us by emailing library@ice.org.uk.
