Entries can be submitted in any or all of four categories:
- Physical Achievement
- Technical Excellence & Innovation
- Team Achievement
A judging panel visits each project and if appropriate can make an Award of Highly Commended, Merit or the prestigious Exceptional Merit.
Only two Exceptional Merits Awards were made – Sizewell B Dry Fuel Store in Suffolk and Wallasea Island Wild Coast Project Phase 1 in Essex.
The Sizewell project created a store for spent fuel rods and is a first of its kind for the UK. The project has won two awards. An Exceptional Merit Award for Technical Excellence & Innovation and a Merit Award for Physical Achievement.
The Wallasea Island project is a landmark conservation and engineering scheme on a scale never before attempted in the UK. It impressed the judges so much it won awards in all four categories. Exceptional Merit for Physical Achievement, Merits for Sustainability and Team Achievement and Highly Commended for Technical Excellence & Innovation.
