Library book of the month - December 2015

Each month the ICE Library team selects a new title from our ever-growing collection to feature as ‘book of the month’. This month, a look at a new book on marine structural design.

The book highlights many of the challenges of designing structures for a marine environment.

Title: Marine structural design. 2nd ed. E-book.
Author: Bai, Y. & Jin, W. L.
Year: 2016

Why should you read this book?

I recommend this book because it is a practical and comprehensive guide. It covers basic structural principles with issues particular to the challenging marine environment, such as wave loads, strength of materials in hostile environments, structural reliability and risk assessment. New additions to the second edition are chapters on structural health monitoring and arctic marine structural design.

Who should read this book?

The book will be useful for anyone working in marine or offshore engineering, from students to salty sea dog practitioners and, as it is in E-book format you can easily read it in the comfort of your office or on a windswept offshore platform without having to worry about splashes, be they seawater or coffee.

The E-book is available through our Dawson E-book collection. You can request it online through the Library catalogue or if you have not registered for the Dawson E-books, please contact us on +44 (0)20 7665 2254 or at
