Lifelong learning: CPD can benefit your career

A New Year means a new resolution – why not make it lifelong learning!

We’re making it easier for you to track and record your CPD.
We’re making it easier for you to track and record your CPD.

Life is competitive and civil engineering is no different. It is therefore important for civil engineering professionals to manage their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to ensure they remain current and competent in their field.

It is essential to keep your personal and technical skills, knowledge and experience up to date and record what you have done, so that you can reflect on it, and then plan for the next step.

ICE is here to help you develop your career successfully by supporting you when planning, doing and recording your CPD.

Recording tools

The CPD recording tools, available online at MyICE, or the templates in the CPD Guidance document available on the ICE website, make it easy for you to track your progress. They can also help you demonstrate your motivation to adhere to professional standards, as specifically mentioned in the ICE Code of Conduct.

Having an up-to-date CPD record is essential for ICE members who sit on panels, act as reviewers, are Council members or who provide volunteer support to the ICE. If you belong to our engaged community, you will be part of our annual CPD audit.

We also select a random sample of qualified working members for the CPD audit. If you are picked up as part of our random sample, you will be asked for your 2015 Development Action Plan (DAP) and Professional Development Record (PDR).

So, look out for a notification to take part in our CPD auditing exercise in early March 2016, and help the ICE improve its support towards your lifelong learning and recording. If you have any questions, please contact cpd@ice.org.uk.
