Kate is a Senior Technician with Opus International Consultants specialising in computer aided design (CAD) and REVIT building information modelling (BIM). Her HNC in Civil Engineering was completed Coleg Cambria also in Wrexham.

A delighted Kate plans to put the money towards a new lap top and travelling costs. She said:

"Engineering has turned into a passion and I hope that wherever possible I can encourage other women into this male dominated industry. I am lucky enough to not have come across any barriers to being a woman in this industry and feel that message needs to be heard."

Kate was presented with the scholarship by Keith Jones, ICE Wales Cymru Director who said:

"I am particularly delighted to give this award to Kate as I am sure she will prove to be an exemplar and encourage not just more young people into civil engineering but more women to join this rewarding and worthwhile profession."

Accompanying Kate to the presentation was Bill Grindley, a director at her employers Opus International who said:

"Kate only joined Opus two years ago, yet in that a short time she has already become a valued member of the CAD team and she is already well respected by her peers. She is a very conscientious employee and student, so I am delighted that ICE has awarded her this scholarship, which I feel is justly deserved".

The ICE QUEST Technician Scholarship is awarded to students on further or higher education courses that could lead to becoming an ICE technician member.
