On 8 December, President Broyd engaged with ICE members and prominent Northern Ireland decision-makers during his President's Visit and the ICE NI Annual Dinner. The key themes during the day centred on innovation, technology, and their place with the civil engineering profession.

The day started with an Innovation Debate at W5, where an expert panel discussed whether technological or cultural changes are more integral to increasing innovation in the construction industry. Moderated by Regional Director Richard Kirk, the panel also included Kieran Harte of Uber UK/Ireland, Dr Joanne Stuart of Catalyst Inc, David Clark of the McAvoy Group, and Emer Murnaghan of Graham Construction.

A poll conducted before the debate showed that a majority of the audience thought cultural changes were more important. Cultural changes still held a majority of the vote after the debate, but the technology side gained a good number of votes by the debate's conclusion.
