One of the major events of the regional built environment calendar, the 2016 Awards recognises outstanding examples of East Midlands' design and construction completed in 2015. ICE's East Midlands' Regional Committee identified and rewarded Adrian "for his drive and devotion to improving the East Midlands' sustainable environment, for the support and care he provided to our local communities and for his boundless energy and enthusiasm for ICE, both in the East Midlands and nationally, and shaping the institution to meet the needs of its members."

Sir John Armitt, ICE President presented the William Kemp award at the ceremony during a black-tie dinner attended by over 200 guests.

The William Kemp award celebrates outstanding achievements of a Civil Engineer working predominantly within the East Midlands.

Introducing the award, Kyle Clough, ICE East Midlands Councillor said, "The award is for an individual that over the course makes a sustained and exceptional contribution to civil engineering in the East Midlands, not necessarily as a civil engineer, but through their engagement in areas such as design, research, education and leadership."

Kyle then went on to say that, "Adrian has also chaired the State of the Nation Steering Group and more recently, as the Vice President for Membership and Diversity played a huge role in moving the Institution forward with respect to a broader and more diverse membership."

"Above all this person inspires people and encourages us to meet the changing needs of society," he added.

On receiving the award, Adrian Coy said, "I was a little shocked, humbled and extremely honoured when Kyle read out the testimony. As someone who has read out testimonies for previous worthy winners of this Award, and because of the tremendous respect I have for William, I will always treasure the Award and the decanter presented."

The William Kemp award is the ICE East Midlands premier award recognising civil engineering excellence and is presented to an individual whose sustained contribution to civil engineering in the East Midlands, over many years, is of particular magnitude and stature.

ICE East Midlands Chair, Claire Greenwood who presided over this year's awards ceremony said: "These awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the civil engineering profession with the inspirational people and teams delivering projects across our region. Many congratulations to Adrian on his thoroughly deserved award."
