Cândida Maia Pestana

The author studied marine biology at the University of Lisbon and at the University of North Wales and later specialized in Economics and Public Policy.

He worked in several areas of the environment, with emphasis on environmental monitoring of the Tagus estuary, and later in the General Directorate of the Environment, in the assembly and development of environmental adaptation contracts with the Portuguese industry.

Since 2001 he has been working in the national coordinating office of the polis programme, ensuring the Head of the Office since 2012.

The Coordinating Office of the Polis Programme ensures the monitoring of the Polis Programmes at the national level, liaising between the Coastal Polis societies and the Ministry of the Environment, in order to ensure compliance with the programme's objectives and, simultaneously, consistency in the implementation of environmental and spatial planning policies in the various projects.
