Dorian Latham

Dorian Latham grew-up on the North West Coast in Formby near Liverpool.  This location provided an early opportunity to experience coastal habitat, natterjack toads, sand lizards and great crested newts, which have provided a huge influence in Dorian’s professional career.  After graduating from Sheffield City Polytechnic (now Sheffield Hallam University in Environmental Studies in 1988, his first job was at Stirling University working as Advanced Trainee in Soil and Water Analysis.   After helping to establish one of the first independent Wildlife Trust consultancies (Econsult NW Ltd) he completed a PhD in population dynamics of the common toad in agricultural landscapes, awarded in 1997.   During 1997 – 2001 Dorian was involved training and auditing against the new ISO14001 standard.  He completed over 200 ISO14001/EMAS audits in 32 different countries covering manufacturing, aerospace, automotive industry and breweries. He developed extensive experience in forest products sectors working with International Paper, Louisiana Pacific, Temple-Inland and Smurfit-Stone (4 of the top paper / fiber products producers in the USA).   Since 2001 Dorian has worked mainly on large infra-structure schemes in flood defence and transportation.  He has applied his environmental knowledge as a skilled environmental co-ordinator complying Environmental Statements, non-statutory environmental reports for private and public clients.  He has acted as expert witness at inquires and planning appeals.  His knowledge of European Protected Species remains a focus of his work and he has wide-ranging experience in great crest crested newts
