Dr Jannik Giesekam is a Research Fellow in the UK Centre for Research in Energy Demand Solutions at the University of Leeds. His research focusses on the role of material efficiency and industrial energy demand reduction in securing a low carbon future. Jannik has published numerous articles on sustainable construction and the circular economy. Jannik has given invited talks, contributed to guidance documents, served on steering groups and acted as a technical reviewer for groups such as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC). Jannik has also undertaken work for the Green Construction Board, the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) and the Scottish Government. Prior to his current position, Jannik completed a PhD on the potential contribution to UK climate mitigation targets from reducing embodied carbon in construction.
