Kevin Burgess has specialised in coastal engineering and shoreline management since 1986 and from the mid-1990s to 2005 was also responsible for technical direction, financial and contractual management on a wide variety of coastal engineering and shoreline management projects in roles of project manager, technical director and chief engineer at Halcrow. From 2005 to 2011 as a member of the Maritime Business Group management team held joint responsibility for that international group’s P&L and associated operational decisions and strategic direction. He has more recently resumed his technical leadership and management responsibilities, heading up Jacobs coastal group in UK/Europe.
Kevin’s experience covers strategic coastal planning and coastal process studies through to the detailed design of coastal engineering projects including: design and analysis of a wide range of coastal structures/defences including breakwaters, seawalls, revetments, beach management; shoreline management and coastal strategic planning; analysis of long term coastal evolution; the development and application of risk assessment and probabilistic analyses at the coast. He is a contributor to various national and international technical publications and has been a regular speaker to coastal conferences.
