Why I chose an apprenticeship

I get to earn while studying for my degree and gaining invaluable work experience on real projects. I also get support towards becoming professionally qualified (IEng).

I’m a civil engineering apprentice, but I’m also... a STEM Ambassador.

A day in my life

My day starts with some coffee and checking my emails to see what I need to do for the day.

A typical day’s activities include modelling on CAD (Computer Aided Design) or producing drawings, attending design review meetings and upskilling my skills by undertaking training courses.

We asked Dyllon…

What would you say to anyone considering a civil engineering apprenticeship?

Definitely do it! It was the best decision I made. It is a lot of hard work, but the rewards are much greater!

What about being a civil engineer apprentice gets you out of bed each morning?

I get to help shape a better world by producing solutions to problems, which is very rewarding!

What’s one great thing that you love about civil engineering that you didn’t know until you started working in the industry?

Civil engineering impacts every aspect of everyone’s lives and has the power to change society for the better.

Name one civil engineering myth you’d like to bust.

Civil engineers don’t come home with hard hats and muddy boots!

What do you do in your spare time?

I like to play football, cricket and hockey.
