What will the project deliver?

The project delivers 514 residential apartments, a cafe with a roof terrace, a launderette and a shared courtyard for the University of East Anglia. Everything in this project was built to BREEAM Excellent standards. BREEAM is an established method of assessing, rating, and certifying the sustainability of buildings.

Local impact

The high-quality accommodation will help attracts students to the University of East Anglia and the expansion will allow the university to start fulfilling its ambition to take on thousands of more students in the coming years.

The project uses sustainable construction and high environmental standards and this groundbreaking project raises to the BREEAM Excellent standard.

Interesting facts

  • At 7 stories tall, the Blackdale residences is one of the tallest cross-laminated timber buildings in the world
  • Cross-laminated timber construction saves 4,600 tonnes of embodied carbon over a traditional concrete frame
  • The project achieved a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating and was registered as an 'Ultra Site' with the Considerate Constructors Scheme
