Decades of increasing population and prosperity have put growing pressure on our transport systems. Government policy closely affects every aspect of our travel behaviour, from the condition of our roads to the price of our tickets.
Strategic vision and objectives are often unclear. In the five years since ICE’s last 'State of the Nation: Transport' report, much has changed politically. However, the most important issues for transport are yet to be tackled.
This report recommends:
- Immediate action to improve road conditions, planning and funding
- Clear national transport strategies for all parts of the UK
- Extended devolution of fully integrated transport powers
