Technician Membership (TMICE) of ICE can be awarded to a wide range of engineers practising in the broad area of civil engineering. Qualified ICE Technician Members gain a greater recognition for their skills in delivering technical solutions within civil engineering teams.
Benefits of becoming a Technician Member
There are a host of benefits to support qualified Technician Members in their civil engineering career. These include the use of the Benevolent Fund assistance and support, Access to the ICE library and the NCE as well as designatory letters TMICE and the opportunity to register with the Engineering Council as an Engineering Technician (EngTech).

Routes to becoming Technician Member (TMICE)
The Route to Technician Membership document outlines the requirements to become a Technician Member (TMICE).
There are three stages in qualifying as a Technician Member (TMICE) via the standard route.

1. Educational Base
The starting point for any aspiring member will be their educational achievement. The educational base for each membership grade is different and usually linked to a formal academic qualification, although the standard can be satisfied by a number of alternative routes

2. Initial Professional Development
Initial Professional Development (IPD) is not mandatory for TMICE but can be satisfied by:
- Completion of an ICE Approved Training Scheme
- ICE Approved NVQ/SVQ
- Self Managed Training & Experience (Career Appraisal)

3. Professional Review - making an application
The third and final stage in becoming a professionally qualified Member of ICE is the Professional Review.

Non-standard routes to TMICE
If your academic qualifications do not meet the ICE requirements for Technician Membership (TMICE) or the Engineering Council's educational base for registration to become EngTech you may still be able to demonstrate that you have acquired this in a number of other ways.
